For the final program of the year, Genesis Chamber Series presents two pinnacles of the Classical chamber music canon for wind and strings. Mozart’s graceful quintet for horn and strings (1782), is unusually scored for one violin, two violas, cello, and horn, producing a work that rejoices in the rich alto register of the horn, performed by the exceptional natural horn player, Carla Blackwood. The program also features Beethoven’s much-loved, momentous septet for violin, viola, cello, double bass, clarinet, horn, and bassoon. The six-movement work was first performed in 1800, and is a superb example of the composer’s Classical period imbued with vibrant colours through its unusual instrumentation.

Genesis Chamber Series presents programs throughout Victoria featuring some of Melbourne’s finest historically-informed musicians in chamber works from the Baroque through to the early 20th Century performed on period instruments.
