Developed by four of Genesis Baroque’s core musicians, the performance actively engages young children in exploring early music concepts of gesture, emotional expression, and improvisation in a playful, immersive, imaginative performance. Conceptualised by Genesis Baroque’s Artistic Director and baroque violinist/clinical psychologist Jennifer Kirsner, together with baroque violinist Meg Cohen, baroque cellist Edwina Cordingley, and baroque harpist Hannah Lane, the musicians bring together a wealth of experience in baroque music practices, teaching, imagining, performing, and creating!
NextGen Kids has been developed for primary school children ages 5-8 years, and designed for schools and community spaces across Victoria. The performance invites children to imagine, reflect, respond to, and create music through their emotional responses, facial expressions, and bodies. Designed to introduce young children to the wealth of emotional colours expressed in baroque music in a vibrant, accessible way, it also supports development of emotional literacy and the rich role of music in supporting emotional connection and expression.
